5G Pixel 4 Would Be A Good Fit On Verizon – Forbes
A rumored Pixel 4 5G would give Google a leg up on the iPhone, which likely won’t get 5G until late 2020.
The company is reportedly “testing” a 5G model for release in the not-too-distant future. (See widely cited report from Japan’s Nikkei.)
But even if Google doesn’t start immediately shipping a 5G Pixel 4 along with the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL – expected to be announced on Tuesday – having a 5G phone going into 2020 is a good idea.
Consumers will be bombarded by 5G marketing hype from Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and others. So, a 5G option is smart.
Samsung has received lots of media attention with the release of its Galaxy S10 5G and Samsung Galaxy Note10+ 5G.
Verizon – the most proactive purveyor of Pixel phones – is pushing 5G hard
A 5G Pixel 4 would make sense because Verizon has always been the most aggressive seller of Pixel phones.
And Verizon is expanding 5G coverage (what it calls “5G Ultra Wideband”) in the U.S. as fast as it can.
Currently, that coverage includes:
- Boise (ID)
- Minneapolis (MN)
- New York City
- Panama City (FL)
- Providence (RI)
- St. Paul (MN)
- Washington, DC
Coverage in New York City, for example, as of the end of September, is in Manhattan in places like Midtown, the Financial District, Harlem, East Harlem, Hell’s Kitchen and Washington Heights, according to a Verizon spokesperson.
In NYC, there is also coverage in places like Madison Square Garden and the Lincoln Tunnel Javits Center, and the Theatre District.
And Verizon will double coverage in NYC by the end of the year.
5G networks will ultimately deliver much higher speeds than 4G. Those networks will also enable things like smarter artificial intelligence on phones like the Pixel.
