Browns’ jersey reveal should quiet Odell Beckham trade rumors

The Browns aren’t going to put Odell Beckham Jr. in their new uniform reveal just to trade him.

Nearly a year after the Giants shipped Beckham to Cleveland, the polarizing wide receiver appears to still be in the Browns’ plans moving forward, as evidenced by his big role in showing off their new uniforms next month, according to NFL Network.

Late last season, Beckham had seemed to put his Browns future in doubt when he said he “couldn’t sit here and tell you whether I’m going to be here, want to be here, don’t want to be here.” By the end of the season, though, he said he was “not going anywhere.”

Since then, the Browns hired a new general manager, Andrew Berry, and head coach, Kevin Stefanski. They also have a new offensive coordinator, Alex Van Pelt, who recently talked up the offense’s potential with Beckham and fellow receiver Jarvis Landry as big parts of it.

Beckham battled a lingering sports hernia throughout last season — in which he caught 74 passes for 1,035 yards and four touchdowns — but is expected to be healthy going into next season after undergoing surgery in January.

“Odell also is probably going to be more involved in the offseason program than he has been and much healthier than he was last year,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Tuesday. “It sounds like he will be a Brown in 2020.”

It was March 13 last year when the Giants traded Beckham to the Browns for Jabrill Peppers and two draft picks after general manager Dave Gettleman infamously said “we didn’t sign him to trade him.” Beckham now has four years left on the $90 million extension he signed with the Giants.

“We view him as part of our future,” Berry said at the NFL Combine last week. “We’re excited about the future with Odell, excited about what he’s going to do this fall.”
