Cam Newton just getting angrier at Panthers: ‘Gave up on me’

Cam Newton is fired up about the Panthers cutting him and doesn’t sound like a man ready to let them forget about it any time soon.

“They gave up on me,” Newton said in a series of workout videos and pictures he posted to his Instagram account Wednesday.

The Panthers released Newton on Tuesday, ending his nine-year run with the team, but only after unsuccessfully trying to trade him. They signed Teddy Bridgewater to a three-year, $63 million last week, a deal that became official Tuesday.

In order to prove the Panthers wrong, Newton will have to get healthy again after shoulder and foot injuries have hampered him in recent seasons. He played in only two games last year before undergoing foot surgery.

The 30-year-old Newton was the league’s MVP in 2015 when he led the Panthers to the Super Bowl.

The former No. 1 pick wrote in another Instagram caption Tuesday that he was “free and hungry,” but it remains to be seen where he will play next season. The list of teams needing a quarterback has quickly been trimmed in the past week and April’s draft could fill more openings, though the Patriots and Chargers remain potential landing spots.
