Dak Prescott gets exclusive franchise tag from Cowboys ahead of NFL free agency

The Dallas Cowboys still haven’t been able to reach a long-term contract agreement with Dak Prescott, but they’re making sure he’s not going anywhere.

With the franchise tag deadline Monday, the Cowboys placed the exclusive franchise tag on Prescott, ensuring the 26-year-old quarterback will stay in Dallas. The exclusive tag prevents other teams from being able to offer Prescott a contract.

The exclusive tag is expected to net Prescott between $33 million and $34 million for the 2020 season, while the non-exclusive tag would’ve come with a roughly $27 million salary.

Dallas reportedly recently offered Prescott a contract worth an average of $33 million and $105 million in guarantees. The Cowboys then reportedly made Prescott a new offer, but Prescott still hasn’t been enticed enough to sign a long-term deal. The two side were hoping to avoid the franchise tag.

In 2019, Prescott set career-highs with 4,902 yards and 30 touchdowns.
