Henrik Lundqvist among Rangers headed home amid NHL’s coronavirus ‘pause’

Mika Zibanejad and Kaapo Kakko left New York for their homes in Europe while Henrik Lundqvist is making plans to do so as NHL players adapt to the updated regulations concerning the “pause” in play.

Zibanejad and Lundqvist reside in Sweden while Kakko hails from Finland.

In addition, Ryan Strome is returning to his offseason home outside Toronto while Brett Howden is off to Winnipeg, Julien Gauthier to Montreal and Tony DeAngelo to Philadelphia.

It is likely there will be a greater exodus as the week evolves.

The latest NHL coronavirus-related regulations were put in place Monday morning following the CDC’s recommendation that mass gatherings of 50 people or more be banned for 60 days. Prior to that, players were expected to remain in their NHL home city. Now, players may return to their offseason homes, where they are advised to self-quarantine through at least March 27.
