Igor Shesterkin’s return to the Rangers nets could be as soon as Saturday, coach David Quinn said on Friday.
The Russian goalie, who rapidly ascended to No. 1 status after a mid-season call-up, suffered a non-displaced rib fracture in a Brooklyn car accident on Feb. 24.
His return would be a boon to a team in the Eastern Conference wild-card hunt that scuffled to a 3-3 record without him, giving up 23 goals in that span.
The 24-year-old netminder has a 9-1 record in his brief NHL tenure, sporting a 2.23 goals-against average and .940 save percentage.
