Ja Morant shouts out Twitter critic after huge win over Lakers

If you’re ever fed up with the Memphis Grizzlies, just tweet about Ja Morant. He’ll probably see it.

The rookie superstar cited a Twitter post as motivation during the Grizzlies’ 105-88 win over the Western Conference-leading Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night. The win came one night after a tough loss to the Sacramento Kings and snapped a five-game losing streak.

“The losing streak was kind of eating me up. I felt like I could’ve been better in a lot of places,” Morant told Fox Sports Southeast after the game.

Morant, the 20-year-old No. 2 pick from last year’s draft, went off for 27 points 14 assists and six rebounds, making 10 of 16 shots, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range.

“I’m thankful for this guy who tweeted and said I don’t have that fire in my eye no more. That game right there was for him. That’s what I do. I prove people wrong each and every night,” Morant also said postgame.

The man in question, Daniel Greer, tweeted the following Friday night: “I liked it when Ja had that fire in his eye. He doesn’t look like he wants it more than others. #NoChip.”

Greer couldn’t believe Morant mentioned the tweet during his postgame interview.

“Am I dreaming this? Is this real?” Greer, a 35-year-old hotels salesman, told the Memphis Commercial Appeal. “There is no way this is happening.”

Morant said he had no issue with the tweet. “He just got me back in my groove. Exactly what I needed,” he said.

The Grizzlies improved to 29-31 and entered Sunday with a 2.5-game lead over the New Orleans Pelicans for the No. 8 seed in the West.

LeBron James called Morant “super special” after the possible first-round playoff preview.

“Memphis got a great one. They got a great one. So, the sky’s the limit for the kid,” James said.
