Jane Fonda endorses Bernie Sanders

Jane Fonda still loves socialism.

The 82-year-old actress officially endorsed Bernie Sanders in the 2020 Democratic primary on Friday.

“We have to get a climate president in office, and there’s only one right now, and that’s Bernie Sanders,” Fonda told USA TODAY shortly before attending a climate protest in Los Angeles “So, I’m indirectly saying I believe you have to support the climate candidate.”

Sanders’ 2020 campaign has pitched a number of aggressive climate policies including the complete transition to renewable energy and ending “the greed of the fossil fuel industry.” He is a supporter of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal.

Fonda is, of course, no stranger to backing socialism.

In 1972 she famously posed with North Vietnamese soldiers atop an anti-aircraft gun in Hanoi to protest the Vietnam War.

Though she has since expressed regret for the decision, the name “Hanoi Jane” has stuck ever since.

In addition to Fonda, Sanders also picked up the support of another aging celeb, 94-year-old talk-show icon Dick Van Dyke.
