The Auburn Tigers have been the cardiac kids of the 2019-20 college basketball betting season. They managed to cover a six-point spread against Tennessee, despite having been down 17 points in the second half, when these two teams squared off two Saturdays ago. But the Volunteers are the hosts this time and are out for revenge.
Tennessee’s offense has perhaps had as many moving pieces as any in the country. Lamonte Turner, who was giving out 7.1 assists per game at point guard, was lost for the season after 11 games because of injury. The Vols ended up getting Uruguayan guard Santiago Vescovi almost immediately after to fill the void, which led to a change of roles for many of the players on the team.
Tennessee seems to finally have found its identity, giving up 73 points or fewer in six of its past seven games. The Vols are coming off wins at home against Florida and in Rupp Arena against Kentucky.
Auburn has not been the same team on the road as it has been at home. The Tigers have won one SEC Conference game on the road in regulation and have scored 73 points or fewer in every road game since Jan. 15 that has ended in regulation.
The Tigers also lead the country in total free-throw attempts, but are 289th in the country in free-throw shooting percentage and 324th in 3-point shooting percentage, so this is a prime opportunity for the Volunteers to help their bubble case and get revenge all at once.
The play: Tennessee, -2.
